Unrelated shootings sent District police scrambling to crime scenes
Residents in several sections of Washington, D.C. began their week on alert, after Monday night gun violence killed one and injured three. Each of the shootings occurred 20 minutes apart and sent District police scrambling to three unrelated shooting scenes. On Tuesday, police said they knew little about what sparked the violence, from 11:20 p.m. to 11:40 p.m. The man killed in the gunfire, 22-year-old Jerry Williams, was struck in the chest. Other injured victims included two 16-year-old boys and a 19-year-old man. None of them were seriously injured. In at least one incident, an armed bicyclist threatened a group of teens that scrambled at the sight of the gun, police said. The District has recorded 53 homicides through the end of July, compared with 62 at this time last year. (Washington Post)
