Wife Gives Husband Kidney For Valentine’s Day

Battling renal failure, James Jones prepares to receive the ultimate gift: life.

Who would have thought that marrying someone would actually save your life? Not James Jones of Lake Mary, Florida. While many woman sit and anticipate what their husbands and boyfriends will get them for Valentine's Day, Jones' wife, Melissa Degesso-Jones, will give him possibly the best Valentine’s gift he’ll ever receive: her kidney.

Jones has been suffering from renal failure for a while. When he was told he needed a kidney transplant, his wife immediately volunteered to see if she was a match. And she was. On Monday, days before Valentine’s Day, Degesso will have her kidney transplanted to Jones. The couple, who met two years ago, is clearly making the rest of us look bad. “Most of us buy an expensive box of candy and call it a day, but this girl is just something phenomenal,” said Dr. Giridhar Vedula, a multi-organ transplant surgeon at Florida Hospital.
