Woman Battling Breast Cancer Fired Twice for Missing Work [Video]

Virginia woman was relieved of her duties after taking time off for treatments.

A Virginia woman is struggling to find work after two jobs fired her for missing work due to cancer treatments.

Connie Robinson, of Richmond, Virginia, has breast cancer and was working for an employment specialist in 2008. A year later, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. She began to undergo chemotherapy and took time off work. When she returned, she received a severance package from the employer noting that she had exhausted the Federal Leave Act.

"I worked even when I was sick and it’s like it didn’t matter," said Robinson.

While upset, she applied for a grant that would fund her for a job at a charity. She landed the job but her battle with cancer wasn't over. After taking more time off for chemo, she returned to no job.

"I was blaming myself. What if I hadn’t taken the chemo?"

The job was considered a temporary one with fewer benefits than a full-time one.
