Too bad majority of men still hold the top spot
The saying goes that behind every great man is an even greater woman, but according to new data women aren't trailing too far behind on their own paths to excellence. In fact, the number of women taking the role of Chief Financial Officer at big U.S. companies increased 35 percent in the past year. Ann Marie Petach, who holds the position at BlackRock Inc., the world’s biggest money manager, says the progress could be due to women's preference for roles that can be measured in numbers. “I believe that women do succeed the best in true meritocracies,” she said. Still, men account for almost 90 percent of CFOs. Additionally, making the jump to CEO can be difficult for a woman. In all, only 14 percent of women held senior-executive jobs last year. (Bloomberg)
