Working Dads Now as Stressed as Moms, Want More Time With Kids

Mom and dad "roles" are converging
Moms and dads are not only increasingly sharing the responsibilities of work and home, but are now sharing the stress that comes along with it too. According to a new Pew study, roughly equal shares of working mothers (56 percent) and fathers (50 percent) report finding it difficult to juggle work and family life. Additionally, 40 percent of working moms and 34 percent of working dads with kids under the age of 18 say they always feel rushed. “Fathers and mothers are becoming more alike than ever before,” said Wendy Wang of the Pew Research Center. As moms are increasingly preferring to work full-time (from 20 percent to 2007 to 32 percent in 2012), dads (at 46 percent) are now much more likely than moms (at 23 percent) to feel they are not spending enough time with their children. Still, there are important gender role differences; when it comes to what they value most in a job, working fathers place more importance on having a high-paying job, while working mothers are more concerned with having a flexible schedule.
