African-American? Or Black?
Do you think twice before using the term Black or African-American? Apparently, no one really cares.
Contrary to traditional belief, the terms African-American and Latino, instead of Black and Hispanic are no longer as preferred as they were once were.
You may not have to as much according to a recent poll taken where 65% of African-Americans said they do not favor the term African-American over Black or vice versa, concluding a level of indifference.
The remaining 45% was an even split between the two—17% favoring Black while the other half favored African-American. Similarly, 70% of Hispanics said that it doesn't matter if “Latino” or “Hispanic” is used, where a remaining 19% preferred “Hispanic” and just 10% preferred “Latino.”
What do you prefer to use?
