America's Changing Face
It’s not so black and white anymore.
American faces are becoming more diverse, according to National Geographic. Martin Schoeller, a renowned photographer and portrait artist, used America’s changing faces as part of National Geographic’s anniversary issue for the October issue of the magazine.
Schoeller used US Census data to complete the photographs. The 2000 census allowed a new option for Americans. Since then, respondents could choose one or more options to identify themselves within a racial category.
This changing face of America is due partly to the increase of interracial marriage and higher numbers of biracial children born.
Do you think National Geographic is saving face or perpetuating the ideology of race?
