Are Women Failing as CEOs?
New study shows that when these individuals fail, a white counterpart jumps in to save a company.
Women and racial minorities are set up to fail in the corporate world.
Women who are appointed as CEOs are blamed for their companies’ failures within six months to a year and then replaced by a white male, according to the study.
“They (women and minorities) are put in really precarious leadership positions, then blamed,” said Christy Glass, associate professor of sociology at Utah State University.
Women and minorities take the risky offers because they see it as their only chance to get a top job.
Racial minority coaches are often hired by failing sports teams, the study shows. These individuals are hired by a team in crisis and were given shorter tenures at their positions than their white counterparts.
