Hispanic Heritage Month runs from Sept. 15 to Oct. 15, a time frame signifying the independence of Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Mexico, and Chile.
The monthly recognition concludes with Columbus Day, or Dia de la Raza, which falls on Oct. 14 this year.

More than half of Hispanics in the nation reside in California, Texas, and Florida. The tight-knit culture stays close together with a whopping 71 percent residing in 100 out of 3,143 counties.
Were you aware--
The Hispanic population expanded by 47.5 percent between 2000 and 2011, contributing more than half of the total growth in that time period.
Would you have guessed--
The importance of education is evident in Hispanic culture. As 49 percent of high-school graduates moved onto college in 2012, they surpassed the rate for both white (47 percent) and black (45 percent) students.
