Design Your Own Child
Get ready, parents. You may be able to design your future child.
23andMe is a genetics-assessment service, and it may be able to determine what your mini-me will look and act like. The tool has been used since 2009, it’s changing the game of child birth in some strange ways.
Before, the company was receiving saliva samples from clients and reporting back what the different traits and conditions a child from the sample would inherit. It was simply a fun way to find out what the hypothetical child’s eye color would be, or health issues that may arise.
Now, 23andMe is looking at technology used in fertility treatments. The patent filed would allow for donor-selection services. In other words, parents would be able to pick and choose specific traits for their child.
Would you opt to design a baby or let nature take its course?
