Holiday Hiring Holdup
For the high schoolers, retirees, and temp workers, don’t count on that holiday help.
This winter, retailers aren’t really looking to hire more workers. Instead, stores and distribution centers are expecting to hire less than 700,000 new temporary employees.
This year’s numbers come as a drastic fall from last year, when new worker headcount toppled over at 751,800. Last year saw a 14% increase from 2011, when holiday employees were considerably downsized.
If you are looking for holiday help, you’d better start looking. The jobs are scarce and select, and expected to start the hiring process in October. The companies looking to hire the most amount of workers are Wal-Mart, Kohls, and Target.
