Why is it that so many celebrity marriages often end in divorce?
Sad news for Paula Patton and Robin Thicke who announced their separation after almost nine years of marriage, and over 20 years of friendship; although I cannot say that I’m surprised by the news, given the recent allegations and rumors surrounding the ‘Blurred Lines crooner.’ Still, it’s unfortunate, and another couple to add to the extensive list of Hollywood divorces.
Why is it that the majority of celebrity marriages end in splitsville? Well, according to relationship expert Andrea Syrtash, “Long shooting days, months on the road and a seemingly endless array of options and suitors make it tough for high-profile actors and celebrities to stay focused on their marriages.”
Marriage is hard work, even for regular folks, but when it comes to celebrity marriages, especially those with both parties in the industry, there is a lot more pressure from being in the spotlight. Every action is watched intensely, rumors and accusations intensify, and career schedules get in the way of any real quality time.
Robert Paul of the National Institute of Marriage believes that celebrities do not take their marriages seriously. “It seems like they approach marriage…as if they are throwaway kind of relationships,” he told The Christian Post.
But, let’s be clear, there are still some celebrities who continue to keep their marriages alive in a time where longevity is bleak, like LL Cool Jay and his lovely wife Simone, Forest and Keisha Whitaker, Angel Bassett and Courtney Vance, Terry Crews and his wife Rebecca, and many more.
Hopefully permanency becomes a trend in Hollywood rather than divorce. Nonetheless, we wish both Robin and Paula well!
