Signs That Person Is Lying
Catch a liar with these five indicators from former CIA officers
Wouldn’t it be so much easier if every liar we came across grew a longer nose? Unfortunately, we don’t live in a fairytale world, and it can be hard to wean the genuine from the fake without seeming overly paranoid? But, according to former CIA officers Philip Houston, Michael Floyd,
and Susan Carnicero, it’s much easier than you think. Here are five telltale signs someone is lying:
#1. Behavioral Pause or Delay—Ever ask someone a question and get no response, but then moments later, they have something to say? Sign number one, he or she could be lying.
#2. Verbal/non-verbal Disconnect—Hiding your mouth or eyes when asked a question is a sign that you might just be dealing with a deceptive person.
#3. Throat-clearing or Swallowing—If a person clears their throat or takes a deep swallow before answering the question, that’s a red flag that the person is being untruthful.
#4. Hand-to-face Activity—From biting or licking the lips, to pulling on the lips or ears, these are all indications that the person is lying.
#5. Grooming Gestures—A dishonest man might adjust his tie or shift his glasses. While, an untruthful woman might brush her hair behind her ear, or straighten her skirt when asked a question.
