Is Your Teen Clueless About Online Privacy?
Many of them are not and report uninstalling an app because they were concerned about their privacy.
With the rise of mobile devices and smartphones, it has become harder to maintain one’s own privacy, and that of your teenage daughter or son. No parent wants to see a picture of their kid go viral, but as it turns out, teens are incredibly aware of their privacy while using mobile apps.
A recent survey found that a little more than half of teens have avoided downloading an app because they were concerned about their information being shared. It was also found that of those survey, 26 percent uninstalled an app when they found out it was sharing personal information.
The survey, conducted by the Pew Research Center, also found that 46 percent turned off location tracking features on their cell phones. Girls were especially careful about sharing their location.
The ever increasing amount of mobile apps allow individuals to share everything now. Maybe it’s about time you had the “talk” with your teenage son or daughter about the importance of their privacy if they are going to own any type of mobile technology.
Do we need to start talking to our children about online privacy?
