Most Outrageous Demands of Obama
When Barack Obama was first elected to be President over 4 years ago, there seemed to be a wave of prosperity and hope sweeping across the country. With a new image, new aspirations arose and expectations soared. The pressure was on for President Obama to become the superhero and fix as well as fulfill every American’s concerns and desires. Now in his second term, the President Obama is being pressured even more to not only satisfy every campaign promise, but also address every person’s anxieties and meet the expectations established for him by the American people. However, one person cannot satisfy everyone and fix every single problem. Here are some of the most common things people have asked President Obama to do/fix. Which of these issues matter to you the most?

The Economy
There is no question that when President George W. Bush left office, he left the country in a large finical crisis. Amidst an economic recession, the pressure was on President Obama to create more jobs and increase the country’s economic prosperity, and to do it fast. While unemployment rates have gone up and down, the economy has been steadily rising recently. Most people long for an economy that was much like the one in the 1990’s and are pressuring the President to get us there.
Women’s Rights
From equal pay for equal work to reproductive rights and birth control, individuals across the country have wanted the President to set the bar for what women are allowed to do and what they are not allowed to do. Feminists want the standard to be “no standard” and have the freedom to do what they please with their bodies and to have the same standards as men. Those that are more conservative want limits to the standards.
The African American Image
As living proof that a man of color can beat all odds and adversity, President Obama is seen as the walking example of what African Americans are capable of doing. Some have pressured President Obama and the First Family to portray the picturesque African American image, while also reversing the centuries of black oppression. Some think that by having an African American in the White House, there will be an automatic decline in black homicide and more opportunities for African Americans. The fate of Black America rests unfairly on his shoulders.
Immigration Reform
From a reform that would allow undocumented immigrants to enter and stay in this country legally to a path to citizenship, people have asked the President to do something in all aspects of this issue. College students and graduates or ‘DREAMERS’ who were born in their native country but raised in the U.S. have pressured President Obama to pass the DREAM Act, even walking from San Francisco to Washington D.C. as a way to bring awareness. Others have expressed their desire to overturn SB 1070 in several states. People want an open border for everyone so that everyone has a fair share to the opportunities the U.S. offers. President Obama is faced with the challenge of getting those who oppose immigration to agree and approve on a reform that will benefit everyone.
Gay Rights
As more gay and lesbian individuals have “come out of the closet” and embraced their sexual preference rather than hiding from it, this issue has heated up. Those that believe a relationship should be between a man and a woman oppose giving any rights to gay and lesbian couples. In the past several years, several states have allowed same-sex couples to get married and Proposition 8 has been controversial in the ballots. Gay and lesbian men and women in the military have also expressed their concern by rallying behind “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.” Though President Obama has come out in support of Gay marriage, he will be closely watched to make sure he sticks to his declaration.
