Man Arrested for DUI with Zebra in Front Seat

Said the animal is like a friend to him

A man was arrested for operating his vehicle while intoxicated over the weekend - while he had a zebra and a parrot inside of it.

Iowa's Jerald Reiter, 55, is a longtime farmer and exotic pet owner. He took the animals with him to a bar, named the Dog House, because he thought they'd be allowed there.

When he arrived, he was told he couldn't bring his furry friends - the zebra named Pee Wee, and parrot named Izzy - inside with him. Naturally.

Reiter got in his car to leave, but a friend asked if he should drive instead; Reiter claims the police arrived at the moment they were switching seats.

The incident seems to have had no effect on Reiter who said he wants to start taking them out to the streets.

"We almost got Izzy riding on the back of Pee Wee so we can, you know, take them to the parades,” Reiter said.
