Can "tar baby" really be used in a non-offesnsive way?

In the past week, conservatives have made a number of outrageous comments about President Barack Obama — from suggesting that he’ll commit treason if reelected to saying that he aims to take away Americans’ freedom. One even used a slur while discussing the president’s policies. Here are the Top 3 outrageous comments right-wingers have recently made about Obama.

Michelle BachmannMinnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann used the term “tar baby” while discussing Obama’s energy policies. Bachmann said she did not use the term, used as a slur against blacks, in a racially motivated way. “Tar baby” can also mean a “sticky situation,” Politico.com reports. Here’s how Bachmann used the expression during an interview with the Shark Tank blog on Wednesday. “This is just about waving a tar baby in the air and saying that something else is a problem. I have never seen a more irresponsible president who is infantile in the way that he continually blames everybody else for his failure to first diagnose the problem, and second, to address the problem. It’s always everyone else’s fault.”

Rush LimbaughRush Limbaugh suggested on his Wednesday radio program that the president was out to take away Americans’ freedom. He remarked: “I ask myself how does a guy with no experience at anything pass himself off as an expert at healthcare and have people believe it. Well that’s [David] Axelrod’s modus operandi. You create an empty suit or find one and then make him likable. And the key to that is to hope that voters don’t notice that their elected representatives are governing entirely against their wishes because the candidate’s so likable. Such a nice guy wouldn’t possibly want to take away your freedom. …He’s too nice a guy. When you think of someone who doesn’t like the country, you think of someone who’s angry, enraged all the time, and privately Obama probably is.”

Michael FitzpatrickPennsylvania Congressman Mike Fitzpatrick, a Republican, said during a recent campaign fundraiser that Obama would commit treason if reelected. “When he left the microphone on in Russia, we all heard what he said … left unrestrained, without the inhibitions of the next election — he’d have flexibility, he said, flexibility to do what he wants to do. Whether it’s trade away … the secrets of our national intelligence, to, what he could do to the United States Supreme Court in the next four years.”
