How Much do Textbooks Cost?
Your first-born child. Not joking.
Along with increasing college tuition prices and fees, textbook prices are also on the rise.
Sure, there are e-books, international editions, rentals, libraries, and used books, but the price is just too much for many college students across the nation.
Some point the finger at the publishing industry, which is dominated by five major companies. Also, new editions of textbooks seem to come out annually, making the sell-back price of used textbooks almost minimal.
Another reason is the market college students create. Students are a captive market in that they need their books, especially when they’re required for the courses they’re taking.
So how are students handling the skyrocketing cost of textbooks? Many are relying on public or private loans or completely bypassing the “required text” line in their syllabus.
What are your thoughts on the price of college textbooks? How do you supplement your educational costs?
