Parents Jailed After Punishing Daughter For Making Bad Grades

12-year old put on "diaper duty" for bringing a F home

Question: When you received bad grades when you were younger, which punishment would you have preferred? A whupping or a shaved head and being forced to wear a diaper?

But, the 12-year old daughter of Stephanie Ann Broten didn't have a choice. When she came home with a bad report card, she wound up with a bad haircut and forced to do "diaper duty." 

"Diaper duty" is making her "run back and forth outside their home wearing nothing but a tank top and an adult diaper" in front of around 50 neighbors, says a police report. One of the neighbors called police. When they arrived, they said the young girl was crying.

Broten admits to shaving her head, while her husband, the child's step-daughter, says he is the one who came up with the diaper punishment. Police say that while both parents were in the patrol car, they laughed to themselves about the notion of the police getting involved. They probably found it funny because this wasn't the first time. The girl says she'd been put on "diaper duty" twice before.

Both parents' malicious punishment of a child carries a maximum penalty of $3,000 or one year in prison. They were released from jail Wednesday.

The girl and her two other siblings have been taken to foster care.
