Santorum To Puerto Rican Voters: Speak American Dammit!

Santorum says PR needs to declare English primary language if they want statehood

Rick Santorum is really feeling himself these days.

After winning the Alabama and Mississippi primaries this week, Santorum is now turning his sights toward Puerto Rico, which is worth 20 delegates. Even though the primary is scheduled for Sunday, he hit the island a few days early to woo voters into supporting him. But, he let it be known, that it's get down or lay down with him.

PR will be voting in November to decide whether or not they want official statehood or to continue being a self-governing U.S. Commonwealth. Santorum told potential voters that even if they vote for statehood, he wouldn't support it if they didn't declare English as their official language.

"Like any other state, there has to be compliance with this and any other federal law," Santorum says. "And that is that English has to be the principal language. There are other states with more than one language such as Hawaii but to be a state of the United States, English has to be the principal language."

Santorum, who is running for president, must have not read the Constitution. It clearly states that there is no requirement that a territory adopt English as its primary language in order to become a state.

Santorum, again who is running for president, also said that he does not support territories like Puerto Rico voting for president in the first place. So why exactly is he even down there? Must be for vacation.
