Tea Party Republican says he prays opponents puts “interests of the nation before his own”
Black Tea Party Republican Allen West of Florida has conceded in his race for re-election to a House seat, ending a two-week battle with district election officials and his Democratic opponent, Patrick Murphy. West said it was unlikely that he would overcome a deficit of more than 1,900 votes, which is just outside of the threshold to trigger a recount of all votes. “For two weeks since Election Day, we have been working to ensure every vote is counted accurately and fairly. We have made progress towards that goal, thanks to the dedication of our supporters and their unrelenting efforts to protect the integrity of the democratic process,” West said in a statement released to Politico. “While many questions remain unanswered, today I am announcing that I will take no further action to contest the outcome of this election.” West expresses his hope that Murphy “will serve his constituents with honor and integrity, and put the interests of our nation before his own.” (Politico)
