Assault Weapons: Poll Shows Majority Want National Ban

Post-movie theater massacre, Colorado voters asked about gun control
A majority of Colorado voters favor a ban on assault weapons, fueling the likelihood that state lawmakers will take up the issue during the next legislative session. A poll released late Wednesday by Public Policy Polling found that 58 percent of Colorado voters support a ban on assault weapons and high-capacity magazines, while 35 percent oppose a ban. The results are similar to Quinnipiac University, New York Times and CBS polling released the same day as PPP. “This is great news,” Colorado State Rep. Beth McCann said about the PPP poll. “These is really no use for these weapons other than to kill as many people as possible, so I am very please.” McCann, who represents Denver and the suburban area where a lone gunman killed 12 people at a screening of The Dark Knight, had previously told The Colorado Independent that she might introduce legislation in the next session of the Colorado Legislature.
