College Grads Benefitted from Education During Recession

Young adults with degrees faired better in the last economic downturn
Here’s proof that obtaining a college degree presents and preserves opportunity for Americans: during the Great Recession, young college graduates did not lose nearly as much ground as those two had less than that, a new study found. Published on Wednesday by the Pew Charitable Trusts, the study shows that Americans age 21 to 24 without a college degree saw a much steeper drop in employment and income. The findings come as many published books and article have decried young college graduates inability to find work and keep work, and questioned the wisdom that a college education is a worthwhile investment. The study, however, did not take into account the cost of going to college and the burden of paying back student loans. Pew used data from the Census Bureau’s Current Population Survey.
