Cory Booker Files Paperwork to Fundraise For 2014 Senate Run
4 months ago
Questions are still swirling whether the Senate seat will be vacant or if he'll have to fight.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker has made his interest in the US Senate seat official, filing paperwork on Tuesday that allows him to raise money for the 2014 election cycle. The move has many people intrigued, considering that 89-year-old Frank Lautenberg currently holds the seat and hasn’t indicated he would like to retire. In 2008, New Jersey’s Democratic establishment agreed that Lautenberg wasn’t too old to serve. US Representative Frank Pallone, a democrat from New Jersey, has also expressed interest in the seat.
Booker touts a strong social media presence, with 1.3 million Twitter followers. He’s known to respond to constituent complaints sent to him electronically and recently concluded a challenge from a Twitter follower to spend a week living on a food stamps-level food budget. (NY Post)
