Cory Booker Plays Superman, Saves Woman From Fire

Newark Mayor makes headlines by saving woman from burning building.

Newark Mayor Cory Booker may have to live with a new nickname from here on out — Superman.

Calling it his "Come to Jesus moment," Booker arrived to his home yesterday to find his next-door neighbor's apartment burning down in flames. The mayor's security team discovered the fire and were told by the grandmother of the young lady that she was trapped upstairs. He then ran up to the young woman's floor, saved her and came out of the ordeal with second-degree burns.

Newark Police Detective Alex Rodriguez and Booker talked about the ordeal with Rodriguez saying how he tried to prevent Booker from entering the fiery apartment to save the young girl.

"He basically told me, 'This woman is going to die if we don't help her,' and what can I say to that?," Rodriguez said. "I let him go and without thinking twice, he just ran into the flames and rescued this young lady."

Booker said he jumped through the kitchen on the second floor and found the young lady after being unable to find her through clouds of thick smoke.

"Thankfully she started yelling out to me and I was able to find her through all the smoke. At that point I grabbed her. I just sort of threw her over my shoulder and dragged her through the kitchen."
