Dem and GOP Senators Launch Immigration Reform Plan

Plan includes pathway to citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrations

Is an all-male bipartisan group of senators trying to beat President Barack Obama to the punch on immigration reform? It appears so. On Monday, a "Gang of Eight" senators announced a set of principles for a sweeping overhaul of the immigration system. It includes a pathway to U.S. citizenship for 11 million illegal immigrants. That's what sold Democrats on the plan. And Republicans might get their demand for stronger border protection and crackdowns. On Tuesday from Las Vegas, President Obama is set to give a speech about his own immigration proposals. Latino-vote seeking Republicans, of course, wasted no time previewing the plan on Sunday political talk shows. “Look at the last election,” Sen. John McCain, one of the eight senators, said Sunday morning on ABC’s “This Week With George Stephanopoulos.” “We are losing dramatically the Hispanic vote, which we think should be ours.” Uhhh… is that the right reason to want to reform the immigration system?
