Gay Marriage Support Grows Among Democrats, Poll Finds
9 months ago
Even split on equality among liberal voters erased since 2008
Nearly two-thirds of Democrats support gay marriage, according to a new Pew Research Center poll. That’s a 15 percentage point increase since the election in 2008, when President Barack Obama did not favor same sex marriage. Pew’s poll comes less than a day after the Democratic Party hinted it would this year adopt marriage equality as part of its platform. Pew’s polling, however, suggests Obama’s May announcement of support for marriage equality did almost nothing to "move the needle" for those who didn’t already favor it. Support for same sex marriage has grown among all Americans, but Republicans remain the most opposed to it. Polls show only 24 percent of conservatives have come around to supporting gay marriage, a five percentage point increase since 2008. (Christian Post)
