House Speaker latest Republican to reveal feelings about minority voters

By now it’s crystal clear to Republican Party leaders that Mitt Romney has almost no chance of snagging the black or Latino vote in any margin that would swing the fall election in the former governor’s favor. Perhaps Republicans strategists knew that when they began pushing voter “fraud” laws in GOP-controlled legislatures around the country. On Monday, voter ID laws weren’t on House Speaker John Boehner’s mind. He told attendees of Tampa, Fla. luncheon hosted by the Christian Science Monitor on Monday that conservatives were counting on enthusiasm gap among minorities who chose Democrats over Republicans. Boehner’s words, as reported by Talking Points Memo: “This election is about economics… These groups have been hit the hardest. They may not show up and vote for our candidate but I’d suggest to you they won’t show up and vote for [Obama] either.” (The Atlantic Wire)
