First lady pushes for legislation, executive action to cut down on bureaucracy
First lady Michelle Obama did double duty on Sunday night, presenting at the Academy Awards via satellite and bumping elbows at the National Governors Association dinner Sunday night. She and President Barack Obama pressed America’s governors to pass legislation or take executive action to allow veterans to receive professional credentials and licenses based on their experiences in the military. The Obama administration says veterans could apply for jobs more quickly rather than take courses for skills they already have. The veterans initiatives are part of Mrs. Obama’s “Joining Forces” program to help military veterans and their families. The newest request will take on more urgency as 60,000 U.S. troops return home from Afghanistan by the end of 2014. (Associated Press)
