Calling All Kid Chefs! Michelle Obama Wants You!
Here's how to enter the Healthy Lunchtime Challenge
As part of her Let's Move! anti-obesity initiative, First Lady Michelle Obama has just announced the details of her second annual Healthy Lunchtime Challenge and she's looking for kids nationwide, ages 8-12, to submit their very own healthy recipe to win a chance at attending her Kids State Dinner at the White House this summer. The dish must be healthy, affordable and tasty under government guidelines, so each recipe must include each of the food groups (either in one dish or as parts of a lunch meal), including fruits, vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins and low-fat dairy foods. And don't skimp -- fruits and veggies have to make up roughly half the plate or recipe. The 56 winners and their parent will then be flown to Washington for the Kids State Dinner to dine on the selection of the winning recipes. Last year, more than 1,200 recipes were submitted, and the president crashed the party. The recipe challenge lasts through May 12. Enter here!
