New College Grads Can Expect Rise In Hiring, Survey Finds
7 months ago
Outlook better than for students who graduated during worst of recession
How’s this for a graduation gift? An annual survey by Michigan State University’s College Employment Research Institute predicts employers will increase their hiring of new 4-year college graduates by about 5 percent in the coming year. Those with associate’s degrees can expect to see an increase of about 30 percent over last year. But MBA hiring is headed for a decline, according to the survey released on Thursday. The Institute collects responses on hiring plans from more than 2,000 U.S. employers and the last survey was conducted before President Barack Obama won a second term. That timing is important, as employers will likely modify hiring plans if the president and Congress can’t compromise on a “fiscal cliff” tax rates deal. Failure could potentially send the economy back into a recession and push the unemployment rate back up to 9 percent. (Associated Press)
