Black Caucus 'Disappointed' in Lack of Diversity of Obama's Cabinet

POTUS' cabinet is almost full
Noting the lack of diversity, the Congressional Black Caucus has questioned President Obama's picks for his Cabinet and has asked that he nominate more blacks to posts. On Monday, Rep. Marcia Fudge, the chair of the CBC, wrote to the White House regarding the Cabinet's all-white nominees: “You have publicly expressed your commitment to retaining diversity within your cabinet. However, the people you have chosen to appoint in this new term have hardly been reflective of this country’s diversity." Fudge noted that the CBC has long offered the administration names of qualified black candidates for the Cabinet and other top jobs. “I am disappointed none have received the consideration they deserve,” Fudge wrote. The president's second-term Cabinet nominations so far include corporate executive Sally Jewel for Interior secretary; Ernest Moniz, a physicist of Portuguese descent, for Energy secretary, and two white men who served in the Senate, John Kerry as secretary of state and Chuck Hagel as Defense secretary. Attorney General Eric Holder and U.S. Trade Representative Ron Kirk are the two African Americans who now sit on the Cabinet. Both were nominated during the president's first term. (Washington Post)
