Obama To Do Campaign-Style Immigration Reform Announcement
3 months ago
President has proposals that are more liberal than bipartisan senators
A bipartisan group of Republican and Democratic senators went “first.” Now it’s President Barack Obama’s turn to put forth an immigration reform plan. POTUS will do that at a campaign-style event in Las Vegas on Tuesday. The White House says Obama will call for broad changes to the nation’s immigration laws, including a quicker path to citizenship for illegals. Obama’s isn’t going to trash the proposals laid out Monday by an eight-member Senate working group, a White House official said. But he’s likely to introduce elements that are more liberal and that could present roadblocks to passage in Congress. In other words, Obama could be walking into another bitter partisan fight. But then, when have his opponents ever not found something to fight him on? (Washington Post)
