Obama Criticized For Using Children at Gun Control Announcement

Conservatives say president’s use of kids to makes gun rights an unnecessarily emotional issue
Who knew children could be so controversial at the White House! After Wednesday’s announcement of sweeping gun control measures by President Barack Obama, who was accompanied by four young letter-writers in favor of stricter laws, a debate is raging over the role of young people on the political stage. The right-leaning Drudge Report website ran a photo of Obama high-fiving one of the children at the gun control event with the headline, “Let’s Play Take the Guns.” The backlash from the conservative, gun rights community came a day after the National Rifle Association invoked President Obama’s children in an ad accusing him of being a hypocrite on the safety of children in schools. Democrats and the White House fired back, calling for the gun group to take the ad off TV and the Internet. Political analysts argue that the president was justified in using children, given the event’s focus on the slaughtering of children at a Newtown, Conn. school last month. (Washington Post)
