Obama Likely Descended From Mom's Slave Ancestor, Not Dad's

President Obama’s white mother from Kansas had at least one African ancestor, according to new research from a team of genealogists. A Provo, Utah genealogy company discovered that despite his father's Kenyan lineage, it's POTUS' mom who has ties to slavery. The team, though lacking definitive proof, said it had evidence that “strongly suggests” the president's mother's family tree includes a slave in colonial Virginia named John Punch. In 1640, Punch, then an indentured servant, escaped from Virginia and went to Maryland. The company says Punch fathered children with a white woman, who passed her free status on to those children, creating a family of a similar name, the Bunches, which ultimately spawned Obama’s mother, Ann Dunham.
