Vice presidential candidates go head to head in a high stakes debate next month

Paul Ryan has a higher favorability rating than Vice President Joe Biden in several major nonpartisan national polls, which were taken since the Wisconsin congressman was tapped to be Mitt Romney’s running mate. Ryan is averaging a likability factor 7.5 percentage posts high than Biden, and even topped President Barack Obama’s favorability in four out of six polls. Ryan’s well-received speech at the Republican National Convention in Tampa, Fla. two weeks ago introduced him to party voters who may not have known much about him before. In October, Ryan and Biden will face off for the first time in a primetime vice presidential debate on domestic and foreign policy. That might be Biden’s only chance to take Ryan down a few notches.
