People Are Hanging ‘Invisible Obama’ with Eastwooding Chairs

RNC's show-stealing appearance has taken a turn for the worst in the south
At least two anti-Obama southerners, referencing actor-director Clint Eastwood’s “Invisible Obama” chair speech at the 2012 Republican National Convention, are hanging empty chairs from trees on their property. The chairs, on display at homes in Centreville, Va., and Austin, Texas, are meant to express disapproval for the nation’s first African American president, but are instead conjuring memories of racially-motivated lynchings that once plagued the south. Burnt Orange reports that one woman’s complaint was met with harsh rebuke by the Texas homeowner. “I don’t really give a damn whether it disturbs you or not,” the homeowner reportedly told the woman. “You can take [your concerns] and go straight to hell and take Obama with you. I don’t give a [expletive]. If you don’t like it, don’t come down my street.” There are a few people who have garnered attention recently for lynching life-sized dolls of President Obama and putting them on display. (Salon)
