Obama To Visit Hurricane Sandy Victims, Skips Campaigning
6 months ago
Power outages linger, more than 30 dead in the east coast’s tri-state region
President Barack Obama and his campaign on Wednesday have halted campaigning in swing states to visit with victims of Hurricane Sandy. Obama will instead tour storm-ravaged coastal communities with New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, a surrogate for Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney, who will resume campaigning in Florida. With power outages lingering for millions of residents across half a dozen states and with the death toll reportedly rising to 38, Obama is fulfilling the duties of an incumbent, even as Election Day is less that a week away. There is some political risk to skipping campaign events for Obama – he is spending the final Wednesday of the campaign with Christie, who has been highly critical of his presidency. But Christie also praised Obama’s handling of the storm, which he may underscore with the visit. (Associated Press)
