Says health and recovery from shooting are priority
Arizona Democrat Gabrielle Giffords will be resigning from Congress as she continues her remarkable recovery from an assassination attempt where she was struck with a near-fatal gunshot to the head.
In a video on her official website, Giffords thanked her supporters and revealed her decision.
"I don't remember much from that horrible day, but I will never forget the trust you placed in me to be your voice," she says in the video. "I have more work to do on my recovery, so to do what is best for Arizona, I will step down this week."
Before she resigns, she intends on finishing the rally where she was shot at.
