Romney, Obama Make Very Little Gains Among Young Voters

National poll of young voters shows Obama holds wide margins over GOP candidate
Despite Republican efforts to convince them otherwise, most young voters do not see themselves as the lost generation failed by their flawed hero, President Barack Obama. A national poll conducted by the Harvard Institute of Politics found that 36 percent of likely young voters supported GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney, compared with 55 percent who support Obama. The survey, conducted from Sept. 19 to Oct. 3, shows both Romney and Obama grew their support among the young demographic. Since the Harvard's spring poll, however, neither candidate has significantly increased their share of the support. The Harvard Institute noted that Romney’s selection of Rep. Paul Ryan as his running mate made some young voters “much less likely” to voter for the GOP ticket, as the 42-year-old congressman is more conservative than most young voters on issues like abortion, marriage equality and the role of government in society.
