It Matters: Sequester Could Disrupt Air Travel Nationwide
3 months ago
Automatic cuts to government spending will make airports even more annoying
Congress has got less than six days to make a deal on government spending, or else this thing called “sequestration” will make all of our lives little more annoying than they already are. Here’s one way how: Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood has told Congress that if they don’t figure it out, 47,000 airport security employees would face a day without work per two-week pay period, amounting to a 10 percent reduction in the airport workforce on any given day. Longer lines? Yep. Flight delays? Yes. And when would this begin? LaHood says that could happen as early as March. So if you’re planning to travel in the next couple of months, you now know what to expect. Of course, that's only if Congress doesn't act. (New York Times)
