Justices let stand an appeals court ruling that blocked early voters in battleground state

The U.S. Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Ohio election officials’ request to restore appeals court-blocked restrictions on early voting. Justices let stand the lower court ruling with a one-sentence order, without any dissents. The action is a victory for the Obama campaign, which sued to overturn the restrictions and needs to maintain its lead in Ohio to bolster the president’s chances for reelection. Ohio officials planned to eliminate early voting for several days before the election next month, only making an exception for members of the military. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit ruled voting must be officer to all voters if it’s officer to the military. (New York Times)
