Tea Party Rep: "USA Voted for Obama Because he's Black"

Joe Walsh said it made Americans feel good about themselves

Illinois Republican Joe Walsh seems to like reminding his constituents why he thinks America voted in Barack Obama as president — because he's black.

The latest iteration of Walsh's comment came during a Sunday town hall in Illinois where he said President Obama is a "historic figure" who was only elected because of his skin color.

"He was a historic figure. He’s our first African-American president. The country voted for him because of that. It made us feel good about [our]self." Walsh said, according to Think Progress. "I’ve said it before, it helped that John McCain was about 142 years old. It helped that the economy was tanking. A lot of these things helped. But he never would have gotten there without his historic nature."

Unfortunately for him, the town hall event wasn't attended by the hundreds he expected, but only 8-10 people.

Walsh is no fan of Obama as he made the same comment last year, has called him "idiotic" and refused to attend one of the president's speeches last year calling it "political theater."
