Secretary of State says safety is her responsibility

Hillary Clinton is taking blame for last month's attack at the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya. The Secretary of State says it was her responsibility - not that of the White House - to keep the Americans' safety a priority. In an interview Monday with NBC News, Clinton said, "I really believe that tragedies like what happened in Benghazi should be viewed in a non-political way. Everybody should pull together as Americans. We did everything we could to keep our people safe, which is my primary responsibility." She told CNN, "I take responsibility. I'm in charge of the State Department's 60,000-plus people all over the world (at) 275 posts." Clinton defended President Obama's administration, which has come under attack for its handling of the tragedy. Last week, during the Vice Presidential debate, Joe Biden told challenger Paul Ryan that the White House wasn't told about requests for extra security at the consulate. Clinton agreed, "The president and the vice president wouldn't be knowledgeable about specific decisions that are made by security professionals." (NBC News)
