Secret Service locks down premises after scare
This must be quite the incentive for everybody running for president right now. Tuesday night, smoking objects, reportedly smoke bombs, were found near the White House and no one seems to know where they came from.
"We had approximately 1,000 to 1,500 protesters from Occupy D.C. on the fence line," says Secret Service spokesperson George Ogilvie. "There were no arrests but what we believe … was a smoke bomb was thrown over the fence."
Witnesses on the scene said they didn't see anyone throw a smoke bomb.
As a precaution, the Secret Service conducted a bomb sweep and locked down the White House, not allowing anyone in or out of its gates. No arrests were made.
President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle were a few blocks away enjoying her birthday dinner during the incident. They returned to the house at 9:42 p.m. after everything was settled.
