Wife of Female Army Officer Joins Spouses Club After Rejection
3 months ago
After initial rejection, Fort Bragg is permitting same-gender lovers into its spouses club.
After initially being rejected by the Fort Bragg spouses club, Ashley Broadway received an invitation from the board in an email Friday. Broadway, who is married to a female Army officer, Lt. Col. Heather Mack, was denied club membership because she didn’t have a spouse identification badge issued by the military.
At first, the club announced it would allow Broadway admittance as a “guest member, but she was adamant on receiving nothing less than full membership. Well, her stubbornness worked. The couple was honored in Military Spouse magazine as Fort Bragg’s 2013 “Military Spouse of the Year.” Broadway's wife, Mack, gave birth to the couple’s second child, a baby girl, earlier this week.
