Logged On For Love: 5 Secrets of a Perfect Online Dating Profile
Looking for love online? Loop21 will help you win in the online dating game with our 4-part series "Logged on for Love."
With over 40 million people looking for love online, you may just get lost in the shuffle of winks, emails and chats. That’s why you must put your best face forward and play your best game to win.
But how do you stand out from crowd? It comes down to your online dating profile.
Here are five tips to creating a dating profile that will get you offline and in real relationships.
- A Photo is Worth a Thousand Words
The photos you choose, especially for your main image, can garner interest or get them all hot and bothered (in a bad way). Make sure to choose a photo that is clear, current and classy. Don’t try too hard. Don’t expose flesh. And please, please don’t pretend to be someone you are not. Leave that nonsense for an episode of Catfish.
- A Classy Screen Name
Hottie, Shorty, Daddy, Sexy, Popozao (I see you, K-Fed): if your screen name begins with any of these words delete and start over! Keep it PG and fun. Show your personality but don’t get too personal. And keep screen names short.
- A Chapter, Not a Book
Don’t divulge your life story in your dating profile. Sure, you should be open, but this isn’t your memoir. It not only scares people away (does she have any friends to talk to?) but it also turns interests away due to the length of your intro. People have short attention spans, so keep it concise.
- Grammatically Correct
Even if you are not a wordsmith, you should probably refrain from spelling “you” like “u.” It shows little effort. Besides, we’re not texting or on Twitter.
-Solo Photos Only
Let’s go back to photos for a minute. One of my biggest pet peeves are profiles where the main photo is a group photo. How am I supposed to know who you are? Do you want me to date you or your friends? It will also be in your best interest to avoid photos with people of the opposite sex. So, when choosing photos, go with the solo shot. And I am not talking about a selfie that you took in the bathroom. A toilet should not be in your image.
Follow these five simple guidelines and your inbox will be flooded quicker than you can say "Let's get coffee." Good luck and let us know if any of these tips work for you.
The conversation doesn't end there! Loop21 will be talking about online dating again next week, so stay tuned!
