Listen: Lauryn Hill Drops New Track
It’s been three years since the singer released a single.
Lauryn Hill released a new song called “Neurotic Society (Compulsory Mix).” The single is from her forthcoming album from her recent deal with SONY Records. The singer and rapper delivers fast-paced rhymes based on an observation of society and the state of pop culture.
“Here is a link to a piece I was ‘required’ to release immediately, by virtue of the impending legal deadline,” Hill wrote on her Tumblr
. “I love being able to reach people directly, but in an ideal scenario, I would not have rush to release of new music. . . but the message is still there.”
In the same post, Hill makes a reference to Kris Kross rapper Chris Kelly who died last week: "In light of Wednesday's tragic loss (of former label mate Chris Kelly), I am even more pressed to YELL this to a multitude that may not understand the cost of allowing today's unhealthy paradigms to remain unchecked!"
Hill was recently sentenced to three months in prison for failing to file taxes on $1.8 million from 2005 to 2007. In addition to her sentence, she must also pay penalties and taxes still owed and a $60,000 fine.
