Get Fit: Fix 5 Health Problems with Exercise
Actively heal your body with physical activity.
Exercise is more than an effective means to control your weight: It also contributes to your body’s overall wellness.
"When it comes to preventing health problems, exercise is one of the best medicines we have," said David Katz, founding director of the Yale University Prevention Research Center in an interview with ABC News.
Here are a few tips to get you actively healing your body:
-Control your anxiety. Adding some cardio during your daily routine will help your body release mood-stabilizing neurotransmitters, like serotonin, which helps explain the feel good feeling post workouts. A 30-minute moderate intensity exercise can help reduce stress and help you unwind.
-Avoid lower back pain. Incorporate some strength training to develop your lower-back, abdominal and oblique muscles to take pressure of your spine and improve range of motion while preventing and treating pain.
-Pump up your sex drive. Adding a workout that gets your heart pumping and puts you in touch with your body, like a Zumba class or yoga, will help you get over body hang-ups and increase circulation to every area of your body and get your physiologically aroused.
-Curb your cravings. Next time you’re reaching for a piece of candy or a bag of chips, go out for a 15 minute stroll. Feed your brain some dopamine with a bit of exercise.
-Strengthen your immune system. Incorporating workouts that raise your heart rate can act like a natural cold-fighter. Raise your heart rate to improve your immunity by coaxing immune cell out of body tissue and into the bloodstream. Try taking a jog, dance class, a bike ride or a circuit workout for about 30 minutes a couple days a week to avoid a risk of getting sick.
