Send Facebook Messages From the Dead?

If you die, there’s an app for that.

The Facebook app, If I Die, continues to be a major sensation created by the social network mogul.

Looks like Zuckerberg still wants you to stay connected even after you bite the dust.

The app’s main purpose is to encourage users to write final words they would've liked to share with family and friends after they die. Developers of the app said they will publish the posthumous message only after friends or family members, who have been designated the task, verify the app user’s death.

Developed by an Israeli company, the app’s Facebook page already has more than 66,500 likes.

Some people are really into this idea, are you? Tell us in the comments below.

University's Efforts to Attract Black Students via Church Pay Off

Hallelujah!

Efforts to attract African-American students to California State University are paying off. Applications to the school are up for the third year in a row; approximately 17,663 Black students applied for fall 2013, a 6 percent increase from last year. The gains can be attributed to an outreach initiative called Super Sunday in which school officials and campus presidents speak to African-American church congregations and inform students of which classes they should take, starting in the sixth grade, to qualify for Cal State. They also offer mentoring and tips for applying for financial aid. Since the effort began in 2006, the number of degrees awarded to African-Americans increased by 30 percent. (LA Times)

New Strategy? Instagram Releases Real Website

Users are able to do everything but upload photos.

Instagram is no longer just a mobile phone application now that it has introduced a web experience for its 90 million monthly active users. Users of the service are able to access and view photos but not upload; that piece of the pie remains mobile-only. The Facebook owned property launched the website Tuesday when Instagram co-founder Kevin Systrom announced it in a blog post.

Systrom said while Instagram was focused on helping people see and take photos on-the-go before, now the goal is to provide members with access  on different devices. The business implications? This is the direction to go if Facebook is looking to integrate Instagram better, particularly when it comes to web browsing and creating another entry point for user activity when they browse the web. The move could also have to do with Facebook’s new search engine, geared towards pulling content (whether images, profiles, likes, preferences) based off of a users’ request. (CNET)

New Phone App Allows Users to Share STD Status

With doctors' approval, bumping phones exchanges STD status -- but not any positive results.

A new application gives smartphone users the ability to exchange their STD-free status and contact card with their partners simply by tapping their phones together. Sexually Active Young's developed the application and calls the feature “safe bumping”, designed to promote safer sex. Users can ask their doctors to confirm their status through the MedXSafe app. However, if the user tests positive for an STD, no record is shown—to protect user privacy. Nearly 19 million new STD cases occur every year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. (Clutch Magazine)
